Facebook Dating Not Working? 9 Fixes to Try

When Facebook Dating is missing or stops working, the cause is almost always one of five things: you’re on a browser instead of the app, your account is under 30 days old, you live outside the countries where Dating runs, Meta has restricted your account, or your Dating location no longer matches your phone’s location. Update the app, then work through the checks below in order.

    • Dating only works in the Facebook app for Android and iPhone, never on facebook.com.
    • “Can’t make new matches” almost always means a location mismatch. You can still message existing matches while you fix it.
    • Deleted your profile recently? You must wait seven days before making a new one.

Match the symptom to the fix

What you see Likely cause Fix
No Dating in the menu Old app, new account, wrong country, or under 18 Steps 1 to 4
Dating opens but shows nobody Location Services off Step 5
“Location mismatch” or no new matches Dating location differs from your primary location Step 6
Prompt to record a video selfie Profile verification Step 7
“Limit reached” Profile deleted in the last seven days Step 8
Dating was there, now gone Account restriction Step 9

Fix Facebook Dating, step by step

    1. Use the app. Meta only offers Dating in the Facebook app for Android and iPhone. The desktop site and mobile browsers won’t show it.
    2. Update the Facebook app. Open the Play Store or App Store, search Facebook, and tap Update if it’s offered. New Dating features reach old app versions last, if at all.
    3. Look under See more. Tap Menu, then See more. Dating is often tucked in that list rather than shown as a shortcut.
    4. Check you qualify. Meta requires you to be at least 18 (by the birthday on your Facebook account), to have an account at least 30 days old in good standing, and to live in a country where Dating is available. Brand-new accounts have to wait.
    5. Turn on Location Services for Facebook. Dating won’t show or match you with anyone until Location Services confirms your primary Dating location. On iPhone: Settings > Facebook > Location. On Android: Settings > Apps > Facebook > Permissions > Location.
    6. Update your Dating location. In Dating, tap Profile (top right) > Dating preferences > Dating location > Update. Switch off any VPN first; Meta says a VPN can cause the mismatch.
    7. Finish verification. If Dating asks for a video selfie, you can’t use it until you send one. The selfie must match a photo on your Dating profile, and updates arrive in your notifications.
    8. Wait out the seven days. If you deleted your Dating profile, Meta blocks a new one for seven days and shows “Limit reached” until then.
    9. Check for a restriction. Meta can remove Dating from accounts that went against its Terms or Community Standards, or that look new or inactive. Its help page lists this as a reason but gives no separate Dating appeal.

Still stuck after all nine? Clear the app’s cache on Android (Settings > Apps > Facebook > Storage > Clear cache) or delete and reinstall the app on iPhone. These are general app fixes, not Meta-documented Dating steps, but they clear stale app data.

    Edge cases

    • You moved or are traveling. Your primary Dating location stays where you signed up until you change it. Your Facebook location catches up on its own, but it can take time.
    • You don’t want to share location. You can switch Location Services off after your profile is set up; you’ll keep seeing people near your last confirmed Dating location. Meta’s own suggestion, if you can’t confirm a location at all, is to delete your Dating profile.
    • A new feature is missing. Meet Cute and the dating assistant reach accounts in waves. Not having them is not a fault.

    FAQ

Why did Facebook Dating disappear from my menu?

Check under See more first. If it’s truly gone, the usual reasons are an out-of-date app, a change in your account standing, or an account Meta flags as new or inactive.

Why can’t I make new matches?

Your Dating location and your primary location don’t match. Update your Dating location and turn off any VPN. You can keep messaging current matches meanwhile.

Does Facebook Dating work in Australia or India?

No. Neither country is on Meta’s list, and nothing in Africa is either. A VPN won’t get around it because Dating checks your real location.

How do I contact Facebook about Dating?

Meta’s help pages offer a “Chat with Meta AI support assistant” option. For a specific person or conversation, use Report inside Dating.

  • How Does Facebook Dating Work? Matching, Explained

How Does Facebook Dating Work? Matching, Explained

Facebook Dating is a free dating section inside the Facebook app. You build a separate Dating profile, Facebook suggests people based on your preferences, your location and the groups or events you share, and when two people like each other they match and can chat. Your Facebook friends can’t see your Dating profile.

    • It lives inside the Facebook app for Android and iPhone. There is no separate download and no desktop version.
    • You need to be 18 or older, have a Facebook account at least 30 days old, and live in one of 52 countries or four US territories where Dating runs.
    • Your Dating profile, likes and chats stay out of your Feed and out of Messenger.

How to start using Facebook Dating

    1. Open the Facebook app and tap Menu, then Dating. If you don’t see it in the list, tap See more.
    2. Tap Get started and follow the prompts to build your profile: photos, a few details, and answers to profile prompts.
    3. Allow Location Services when the app asks. Dating uses it to confirm your primary Dating location, and you can’t see or match with anyone until it does.
    4. Set your preferences. Tap Profile in the top right, then Dating preferences, and choose age range, gender identity, distance and the rest.
    5. Start browsing. Send a like or a message to anyone you’re interested in.

Your primary Dating location is wherever you signed up. It does not move when you travel, which is the most common reason Dating stops showing new people. If that happens, see our Facebook Dating not working fixes.

    How the matching works

Meta says suggested matches come from three places: the preferences you set, what’s on your Dating and Facebook profile (hometown, schools), and the groups and events you have in common with other daters, including past events you attended or marked interest in. Meta adds that it “may use other signals from Facebook”.

A match happens when two people like each other. Until then you can like and message anyone suggested to you, but the conversation only opens up properly once the interest is mutual.

Friends of your Facebook friends can show up as suggestions. That setting is on by default; you can switch it off under Settings > Privacy settings > Suggest friends of friends.

    The extra features

Feature What it does Who has it
Secret Crush You pick Facebook friends, or friends of friends, you’re interested in. Meta’s help page says they can then see that you liked them in Dating, in their Liked You tab. Everyone with a Dating profile (the Crush tab at the bottom)
Meet Cute Facebook picks one surprise match for you each week. You can chat or unmatch, and you can opt out at any time. Announced September 2025; still reaching accounts in waves
Dating assistant An AI chat in the Matches tab that finds profiles from a typed request and gives profile or date ideas. Rolling out gradually in the US and Canada
Match Anywhere Adds up to two extra places to look for matches beyond your home area. Each can be changed once a week. Some accounts only; not new profiles

    What stays private

    • Your current Facebook friends and anyone not on Dating can’t see your Dating profile.
    • Dating activity never appears in your Facebook Feed.
    • Dating chats are separate from Messenger.
    • Anyone you’ve blocked on Facebook is blocked in Dating automatically.

One catch: if you become Facebook friends with someone you’ve matched with, they can still see your Dating profile.

    Gotchas before you start

    • Meta may ask for a video selfie to verify your profile. You can’t use Dating until you send one, and it must match a photo on your profile.
    • Deleting your Dating profile wipes your matches and conversations, and you can’t make a new one for seven days.
    • A VPN can make your Dating location and your real location disagree, which blocks new matches.

    FAQ

    Is Facebook Dating free?

Yes. Meta describes it as a free dating experience inside the Facebook app, and its help pages list no paid upgrade for Dating.

Can my Facebook friends see I’m on Facebook Dating?

No. Meta says current friends can’t see your Dating profile and your Dating activity doesn’t appear on Facebook. The exception is a match you later add as a friend.

Do I need a separate app?

No. Dating is a section of the main Facebook app for Android and iPhone. It isn’t on the desktop website.

Is Facebook Dating available in my country?

Meta’s list covers the US and its territories, Canada, the UK, most of the EU, Mexico, most of South America, and the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore and Laos. It does not include Australia, India or any African country.
